Ray Hartley

2014
Ray has had such a profound effect on the club that he is still credited some 30 years later as being the man responsible for getting the club up and going and setting up an era of success.

Although he played most of his cricket in the lower grades, he played a lot of cricket and off the field he was to leave an indelible mark with his work behind the scenes. As President from 1979-80 to 1982-83, Ray would go and get some of the big recruits of the time, players who were to become all time greats of Mountain Gate. The club built a super side during his time, winning the Nielsen Shield in 1981-82, first year up, a feat that is still to be matched.

Success on field, bred success off it as well, as Ray’s charismatic personality and tireless devotion to the club saw Mountain Gate become the ‘place to be’ after games on Saturday evenings. The rooms were often packed as players from other clubs and even umpires used to flock back in big numbers to Mountain Gate to catch up, swap yarns and enjoy a few beverages.

Adrian Feeney

2014
Adrian ‘Fingers’ Feeney is a living, breathing link to our early beginnings, after joining Mountain Gate way back in 1968. Although better known as a bowler, Adrian won the B Grade competition batting award in 1982-83, averaging around 45 for the season as an opening batsman.

Adrian left an indelible mark on the club by virtue of his off field endeavours, to become one of our greatest ever club administrators. He was President for three seasons, from 1986-87 to 1988-89, Vice President for a couple of years and also took on the role of Secretary from 1983-84 to 1984-85. Adrian was also Secretary before the period listed on our current honour board, as a young 18 year old.

His overall service to the club would span well over 40 years, and In recognition of his many years of service the club’s best and fairest award now carries his name.

Chris Harris

2014
Chris began at the club in senior ranks in the 1988 season and has had three stints as President, from 1997-98 to 1999-00, 2007-08 and has been the current President since 2012-13.

He was Treasurer in 2001-02 and also took over half-way during the 2007-08 season. Chris managed a personal highlight of playing in a premiership in the 1999-2000 season in Decoite 1 with brother Dave, while Chris was President and Dave the Captain.

But perhaps Chris’ most enduring legacy is his work with our juniors as a junior coordinator, another tough task. Chris ran our junior program for an unbroken 15 year period, with the able assistance of Neil Jones. The Most Promising Junior Award now carries their names. The juniors were very strong during this era, winning several premierships.

David Harris

2014
Dave Harris commenced with Mountain Gate as a junior in 1974 and was to go on to become one of the greats of the club, both on field and off. He played his first game in the Ones at the incredibly young age of 14 as a top order batsman. He was to spend many years as a keeper-batsman, before ultimately becoming a fine off spinner till his retirement.

Dave has served as President – in 2003-04 and also as Secretary in 1995-96. On the field, he had four separate stints as First Eleven Captain/Coach – the first time from 1990-91 to 1992-93. He then took over from Tony Sheehan in the 1995-96 season. He then took the helm in 1999-00, a year in which we won the Decoite 1 Premiership under his leadership, and finally answered the call one more time in 2004-05 to 2005-06. Dave is also a long-time financial supporter of the club and continues to be, to this day.

Mark Burridge

2014
Mark Burridge, better known as ‘Budgie’, has been a full-on and selfless contributor to the club, taking on many important roles off the field. He is recognized as one of our greatest administrators and an intrinsic part of the running of the club over many years.

As a perennial member of the committee and in particular the Executive Committee, Mark was Treasurer for many years over several spells (97-98, 98-99, 99-00, 03-04, 04-05, 05-06, 09-10, 10-11, 12-13) and also Secretary in 91-92. He also assumed the top role of club President during the 2000-01 season. Mark also took on the busy role of Junior Coordinator (with the able assistance of wife Fiona on the junior committee).

Mark is also a long time sponsor of the club through his business - Horizon Mortgage Solutions.
