Welcome Back to Windermere

Welcome Back to Windermere

This season the club will set up home base at Windermere Reserve, while the HV Jones ground is torn up and given a makeover by the council.

Windermere has been our main backup ground for many years now, with the club first moving there in the 80s while the clubrooms at HV Jones were being rebuilt following a fire. It then became home base for a period, before the club eventually returned to a refurbished HV Jones as its main home in 2004-05.

The FTGDCA has also recently set up digs in the rooms, conducting meetings from there as they also seek a permanent home. You will notice some of their memorabilia adorning the walls, along with ours.

From the outside not much has changed, although there is a new verandah which will enhance your summer viewing experience! Inside though, the kitchen was recently refurbished, as well as both sets of toilets. It won’t take long before it feels like home.

To celebrate our ‘return’, the club is holding a Welcome Back to Windermere function on the season opening match, Saturday the 4th, where old memories can be recalled and new ones commenced.

Free admission, with nibblies provided and a bit of Karaoke thrown in.

Footnote: in the ‘olden days’, the womens toilets were referred to as ‘Smithy’s Office’, as enforcer Colin Smith used the area to settle disputes with healthy and robust discussion!
