Seniors Fourth Round Day 2 Reports
Cam Wheeler heads a memorable the fight back.
After a solid effort with the ball late on Day 1, we went into Day 2 with the Footballers 3/34 in pursuit of 107, in need of a couple of early wickets to put further pressure on them.
Which Cam Wheeler was able to provide, a 5 over burst took them from 3/39 to 7/49 and the game squarely in our favour.
They were able to put on small partnership and when it started to look like they were back in the game, Cam again got the break through and finished off their inning in 6 balls split over 2 overs.
Apart from the obviously highlight, we were very well supported from the sidelines and at least a couple of dozen supporters getting behind us. We also managed to hold onto every catch on the 2nd day, which was a very pleasing effort.
Congratulations must go to Trent Fitzgerald for his 47 on day 1, as well as Cam Wheelers amazing effort. Taking 8/23 off a lazy 19.4 overs, his best return for Mountain Gate, and an effort that will go down in the history of the club, Congratulations for an amazing day out buddy
Seconds keep on, keeping on!
Having the Footballers 3/53 overnight, the gators were confident that they would get the job done.
Eraj thought he would surprise the Footballers batsmen by opening up straight away with Kev with his effective off spinners. This move ultimately proved to be effective, as the duo of Eraj and Kev destroyed the Footballers wicket by wicket and winning the match within 20 overs. Eraj finally came through with some wickets for the season, ending up with 5/26 off 20 and was supported well with Kev's figures of 4/6 off 11.2.
Finishing their innings off early, the Gators decided that they will have a crack at an outright win, and sent the Footballers back in with the hopes to bowl them out as easy as they did in the first innings. However, it appeared that the Footballers had learnt their lesson from the first innings and placed more value on their wicket this time around. Eraj threw the ball around, by the gators were out of energy and were desperately seeking wickets, which only came through with one from Nick Burridge (1/15 off 6) before deciding to pull the pin and take the 6 points.
Another convincing win for the 2's, providing them with plenty of confidence for their next game against top of the table South Belgrave.
Threes just miss again
After Day One we were 7/104 while Lysterfield were 5/139 with Cheesy top scoring with 33 and Luke Heads with 2 wickets for 34. Our second batting phase didn't go to plan losing 3 wickets for just 13 runs which resulted us losing the match. Lysterfield chose to continue their first innings and to our players credit we bowled and fielded as the match was still alive. Cam Davey picked up 2 wickets to finish the match with 3 wickets while Steve Terrington took 1 wicket and we also made a Run-Out before Lysterfield declared at 9/193.
With 50 overs left in the day, we started our 2nd Innings, with Luke Heads been the not out batsmen from the 1st Innings he opened the batting with Cam Davey. Cam was unfortunately caught by the bowler who threw out one hand it stuck. Evert then joined Luke at the crease and both put the chance of an outright loss out of the question. After 30 overs both captains agreed to end the day with us on 1/60 with Luke finishing on 31* and Evert 14*.
