Seniors Sixth Round Day 1 Reports
Sharp bowling and fielding see the 1st win on day 1
Playing Lysterfield away, we won the toss and decided to bowl first for only the second time this year. In search of early wickets, Cam Wheeler bowled really well again and got us off to a flyer, and all for sudden they were 4/30 with another batsman retired hurt. While they batted on and never gave in, it was down to solid bowling and catching and we bowled them out in the 37rd over for 67.
In pursuit of some quick runs, Clint Buckland (71) and Kallum Croxford (41) opened the batting and after 10 overs we passed them with the score on 0/71. All our batsmen, Adam Heath, Trent Fitzgerald, Josh Lindner were able to get in and make 20 to 40 runs and continue to push our advantage on. Johnny Roxakis in his first game for the ones, made a solid 25 batting at 4. Dewayne Bowden also returned this game and was trapped in front for 11.
We finished the day with 5/255 on the board with Josh Lindner on 35no and Peter Castledine also 6no. A great result on week 1 of the game and hopefully it will lead to bigger and better things.
Seconds find the going tough with the bat
After coming off their first loss for the season, the Gators were ready to get back on the winners list with their match against 5th spot team Lysterfield. As per the last few games, the 2nd's side was constantly changing, but had the important return of Paul Wiles.
After winning the toss, we decided to bat first and set a good target for the beavers. However, all didnt go to plan as a new batting order ended up failing and lost quick wickets. Brad was looking like he was about to get a start, but then fell for 15. The returning Wiles put up a solid fight and knocked the ball around with ease. Eraj entered the crease batting no.7, and the two put a near 50 run partnership together, before Eraj finally fell for 6. Shortly afterwards, Paul Wiles lost his wicket for a solid 45 runs. The tail slowly followed in similar footpaths as the gators were bowled out for a disappointing 93.
Lysterfield then started their innings, but it was the combination of Croxford and Wiles who started the gators off with two early wickets. Overnight, the beavers are 3/69, and its going to be a hard task for the Gators to pull a win from here, but....anything is possible in this game.
Threes game in the balance
After losing the toss and bowling we started off well with Ryan Fabrici dismissing both openers early, Cam Davey bowled well and picked up a wicket himself and we had Ferntree Gully 3/32. First change bowlers Lachy Smith and Robbo also took 1 wicket each and we were really on top. Dane Heffernan picked up 2 wickets and we had them 7/90. However Ferntree Gully put up a fight and after 35 overs we had them 7/133. Our fielding improved from previous weeks resulting in all 7 wickets been catches, with Lachy Smith and Evert Marjee with 2 catches, Ryan Fabrici, Trent Young and Josh O'Brien 1 each.
Our turn to bat and things didn't go to plan with us losing our first 6 wickets for 17 runs. What looked like a disastrous innings changed when Trent Young and Cam Davey set about building a partnership which saw us go to 7/68 when Trent was dismissed for 23. Ryan Fabrici joined Cam and both batted out the day but not before Fab smashed two sixes. Cam is unbeaten on 34 and Fab on 14.
