Seniors Round 10 Day 2 Reports
1st XI have a very convincing win over St. Johns
After a strong bowling performance, bowling St. Johns out for 141 and being 1 for 51 over night, the 1st were looking to continue on their merry, winning way and maintain their undefeated record for the current season.
Clint Buckland continued on from where he left off in the first week, as did nightwatch man, Cam Wheeler, Clint eventually being out for 70 and Cam making a very well made 45 before being given out to a dubious LBW. Johny Rozakis, who is looking stronger with each game he plays, then helped seal the win with his 63, before Marshall Bunting kept his solid season with the bat going with 58 and Dewayne Bowden chipped in with 60no.
The Gators called an early finish to the day, with the score at 8 for 346. Another good win with many contributors with both bat and ball, which was pleasing.
Seconds bowlers all contribute to a comfortable win
After declaring on 7/377 and having St Johns Tecoma 2/47 overnight, the gators were keen to knock them over quickly with the possibility of an outright on the horizon.
As we had all seen from the previous week, the away ground was lightening fast and boundaries were in favour of the batsmen. However, it was the tight bowling and pressure fielding that restricted the opposition to a small total of only 21 boundaries, compared to the gators 63 (including 8 maximums). The wickets were evenly shared amongst the pace and medium pace bowlers, with excellent partnership bowling with Brad 2/45 off 15, Rusty 2/29 off 13, and Eraj 3/34 off 15.3 and a well bowled spell by Stevie 3/29 off 10.
This big 215 run win against St Johns has placed the Gators 4th on the ladder, sitting just one win behind 2nd and 3rd spot. The gators play Auravale away this week in a two dayer, with intentions of replicating last games efforts.
The Threes find the going tough against Upwey.
Overnight we had Upwey 4/156 while we were 8/81, things were always going to be tough but we came out and bowled and fielded well, the pick of the bowlers was Lachy Smith with 3/46 and Larry Wijerathne who took his first ever wicket. They declared at 7/215 which meant we needed 54 more runs to avoid the follow on. We managed to make 100 before been bowled out with Mark Argus top scoring with 18 and also Nick Burridge finishing on 18 not out.
Upwey sent us back in with 50 overs left in the day, with the batting order changed up we were looking good at one stage, however they managed to bowl us out with 15 overs left in the day. Nick Burridge opened in the 2nd Innings and left of were he started in the 1st Innings making 23, Luke Heads batted at number 3 and was the last wicket dismissed for 20 runs, after playing the top four teams in the last four rounds we are looking forward to having a crack at a win against our next three opponents.
