Seniors Round 11 Day 1 Reports
Firsts have a battle on their hands.
After a very good game against potential finalists St Jones Tecoma last fortnight, we faced another team fighting for a spot in the top four in Aura Vale.
Fortunately the toss fell our way and with the overcast conditions I decided to bowl. It seemed like a good idea however after 45 minutes, they were in a very strong position at 1/70 of 14 overs. Cam Wheeler returned, after being hit for the first time this season, to make a key double break through and get us back on top. They continued to bat well after drinks and were looking like going into tea well in front until Rusty Wilson, returning to the firsts, got their captain caught at square leg. At tea they were in a decent position at 4/130 of 42 overs. We continued on after tea and picked up wickets at fairly regular intervals and also never let the run rate get out of hand. We finished the day in a good position by bowling them out for 210.
It was pleasing that after the first 15 overs, we managed to keep them in check and never allowed them to get the ascendancy again. The outfield was very fast and with some warm weather on its way should make for a good chance next week.
Finally I would like to thanks the supporters club and all the other supporters for coming down yesterday, it was, and always is entertaining to play in front of a crowd.
Seconds post another impressive score.
Heading up to the sticks, Auravale hosted the Gators in their second clash for the season.
With the weather changing throughout the morning, the original thought was to bowl first, however after winning the toss Eraj chose to bat.
With only one change in the team (Rusty up to the ones and Brock in), the batting line up remained similar to their last games dominant performance. Unfortunately, the young attacking batsmen Kallum lost his wicket in the second over without registering a score, and couldnt back up his 72 from last match. Continuing his good form, H spent some time in the middle and mentored the younger generation of batsmen below him. Brad was determined to keep his consistent form as of recent going and scored 34, regardless of recent injury to his manhood. Runs were flowing left, right, and centre, and it was definitely a day for batsmen. H knocked up his half century, but lost his wicket shortly after. In came Paul Adams, was eager to get out in the middle and also continue his good form. He formed a 92 run partnership with Josh Burridge, who played a powerful innings and hit his first 50 for Mountain gate, making 65.
A few quick wickets fell, and Paul found himself passing 50 quite easily but was seeking a batting partner to guide him and the team to a solid score. The skipper Eraj came in at no. 10, and knew he had a job to do and wanted to see his good mate reach his ton. With a bit of luck here and there, Eraj and Paul hit a quick 89 run partnership, and it saw Paul finish not out on a powerful innings of 119, with Eraj finishing not out on 42.
The Gators batted out their overs and finished on 8/352, with another win just around the corner
Threes look like playing another tight match.
The threes ventured back to Llewelyn Reserve to take on Knox and the day turned out to be the Griffin show.
The Gators batted first and compiled 7 for 136, with Griffin making a well made 31 not out, before the swap of innings.
The Gators then bowled and have Knox 5 for 130 at the end of the days play, with Griffin taking 3 for 17.
With a bit of luck, the Gators can add enough runs to their overnight total to be able to roll Knox before they chase the total down and clinch their first win.
